Chinese scientists have developed a new type of aluminum-graphene battery

Recently, the super team at Zhejiang University developed a new aluminum-graphene battery that can be charged in just a few seconds. It is still fully charged after 250,000 cycles of charging and discharging, and exhibits heat resistance and frost resistance. Repeated bending does not affect performance. Such excellent characteristics show a wide range of application prospects.

According to the People's Daily News on January 3, a piece of dark grey film with metallic luster is the team's newly developed aluminum-graphene battery. Its positive electrode is a graphene film, and its negative electrode is aluminum metal. Connecting two batteries in series will light up a group of LED lights. After testing, the graphene cathode has a specific capacity of 120 mAh/g (milliampere-hours per gram) and can maintain 91% capacity after 250,000 charge and discharge cycles. At the same time, it has excellent rate performance, and the rapid charge can be filled in 1.1 seconds. Electricity still has a reversible specific capacity of 111 mAh/g.

At the same time, the battery can work in the environment from minus 40 degrees Celsius to 120 degrees Celsius, which is both high temperature resistance and cold resistance. In the minus 30 degrees Celsius environment, this new type of battery can achieve 1000 times of charge and discharge performance, but in the 100 degree environment, it can achieve 45,000 cycles of stability. The new battery is flexible. After it is bent 10,000 times, the capacity is fully maintained; and even if the battery is exposed to fire, it will not catch fire or explode.

"The aluminum-graphene super battery has much higher rate performance and cycle life than other batteries and has higher energy density, comparable rate performance and cycle life than supercapacitors." Polymer Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University Professor Gao Chao said.
