Recently, it was learned from the Fuzhou Customs that in the first two months of this year, Fujian Province exported 890 million U.S. dollars of shoes, an increase of 1.2% year-on-year. Among them, rubber shoes and plastic shoes are the largest export varieties; general trade exports have kept growing, and processing trade exports have declined; exports of small and medium-sized private enterprises accounted for half of total exports during the same period.
It is understood that due to the deepening of the international financial crisis, international trade protectionism has intensified, and labor-intensive footwear products have become the hardest hit by trade friction. Since the end of last year, Brazil, Canada, and Argentina have successively placed anti-dumping or anti-subsidy lawsuits on China's export shoes. According to the data, in the first two months of this year, Fujian Province exported 10.54 million U.S. dollars to Brazil, 27.754 million U.S. dollars to Canada, and 795 million U.S. dollars to Argentina. The export of the three places together accounted for 5.2% of the total footwear exports of Fujian Province in the same period. Although the ratio is not large, it is prone to produce demonstration effects and trigger follow-up actions in other countries or regions. Most of the enterprises involved in this case are small and medium-sized footwear enterprises. Their anti-risk capabilities and experience in solving trade frictions are relatively lacking, and they are vulnerable to large impacts.
Experts suggest that relevant government departments should pay close attention to the dynamics of foreign trade protection for China’s footwear products, establish a smooth channel for information dissemination, help enterprises improve the predictability of business decision-making and market resilience, and use the chamber of commerce and industry associations to coordinate external enterprises. Act and strengthen the role of industry self-regulation, guide enterprises to unite together to cope with foreign trade protection measures, and safeguard their own legitimate rights and interests; guide enterprises to change the traditional distribution methods, improve product technology and environmental protection quality, and actively explore the road for their own brand development, Improve the core competitiveness and added value of products and reduce trade friction at the source.
