June 7, Silicon Valley reporter learned that Intel ultra-mobile Internet terminals (MobileInternetDevice, referred to as MID) will be used in the Division Red Flag Linux operating system. This is also the first time MID installed the open source operating system. Before that, it basically used Microsoft's Windows system.
This operating system is called Midinux 1.0. Can support Intel's ultra mobile computing platform (codenamed McCaslin). Midinux 2.0 is planned for release in 2008, and the next version will support Intel's next-generation platform codenamed Menlow.
As early as this year's Intel IDF (Information Technology Summit), the reporter found several UM PCs (ultra-portable computers) that installed the Zhongke Hongqi Linux operating system. The relevant person in charge of Zhongke Hongqi told reporters that the company started the Midinux project for MID 18 months ago. Compared to the traditional PC operating system, Midinux provides a new user interface and interaction, smaller size, faster response speed, and can be customized according to the needs of hardware manufacturers.
It is reported that, MID lock in consumers and professionals and amateurs are two kinds of target markets. The product will be powered by a 4.5 to 6-inch screen with resolutions from 800x480 to 1024x600. According to industry insiders, after adopting Linux, the production cost of UMPC can be effectively reduced, and its selling price is expected to be greatly reduced.
Vice president and general manager of Intel System Software System software company DougFisher said: "Linux operating system platform for IntelMID significance, and to the entire industry has brought great opportunities for development and hope that Red Flag Software companies in future cooperation based on Intel. Processor and chip technology release a complete Linux system solution for lower power consumption, smaller system size and a new user experience."
The reporter learned that Zhongke Hongqi is similarly cooperating with several other well-known international manufacturers. The marketing director of Zhongke Hongqi Company has confirmed this and admitted that it will soon launch products that will inspire consumers. Midinux is also the company's third important product line after Linux servers and desktop systems.
