US Novelis plans to invest in aluminum casting technology in Europe

American aluminum producer Novelis said that the company plans to invest US$32 million in a new foundry in a Swiss foundry. In the statement, Novelis stated that it is expected that Sierre's new foundry will be put into operation in early 2008. Novelis stated that the initial annual output of the new foundry was 70,000 tons, providing 30 jobs for the Swiss factory. Based on the company's Novelis Fusion technology, Sierre will become a multi-alloy ingot casting center. This technique injects multiple alloy layers into aluminum ingots. Novelis stated that board products made from multi-alloy ingots will achieve product characteristics that were not achieved by previous products. Novelis first announced the new Novelis Fusion multi-alloy casting technology in June. Novelis is located in Atlanta. The Foundry Center will provide high quality aluminum products for the European automotive industry and other major industry customers. Brooks, the company's operations director, said the company plans to shift Novelis Fusion technology to the Asian market.
