Thai research produces biogas plants to develop alternative energy sources

According to Thailand’s “World News” report on June 15, Thailand used agricultural waste and factory waste water to convert biogas into alternative energy in 1995. Now it can produce 700 million cubic meters of biogas annually. Biogas has now become one of Thailand's important sources of energy. Suide, director of the Thai Energy Policy Planning Agency, stated that in 1995, Thailand produced biogas from the use of agricultural waste, factory waste water, and animal waste.

The development of alternative energy is one of the country’s national energy policies from 2008 to 2017. At present, there are 543 livestock farms and 107 factories participating in this biogas project. The development of biogas policies also includes the promotion of planting energy plants for the production of biogas, as well as compressed biogas, which can replace the use of natural gas in the transportation industry.

Thailand's Energy Policy Planning Agency has asked Chiang Mai University to study Thailand's related plants to find out which plants can produce biogas. The plants that have been found to produce biogas are nose grasses. This plant is a bit like sugar cane, and elephant gardens are used to buy elephant grass for the nose. He said that if the Thai government actively promotes the compression of biogas, the rural areas or northern regions where natural gas supply is less can reduce the energy shortage.
