Research progress on clean application of iron-based thin film catalyst in Institute of Engineering Thermophysics

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are generally considered to be the main cause of global air pollution. VOCs have different components, mainly formed in the industrial production and transportation processes of chemical industry, electric power and medical plants, motor vehicle and aircraft exhaust, gas stations, petroleum refining, printing, food processing, automobile and textile manufacturing industries. By 2020, China's VOCs emissions are expected to increase by 49% over 2005. Therefore, in addition to strict control of VOCs emissions, there is an urgent need to develop and apply efficient methods and techniques for the removal of VOCs.

The Combustion Chemistry team of the New Technology Laboratory, Institute of Engineering Thermophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences used pulse atomization thermal evaporation chemical vapor deposition (PSE-CVD, see Figure 1) to prepare a series of highly active and low-cost iron-based transition metal oxide thin-film catalysts And apply it to the catalytic removal of industrial exhaust model components (C2H2 + CO). The results show that PSE-CVD can produce iron oxide with controlled phase, and the phase is closely related to the morphology. Using the emission Fourier infrared transform spectroscopy developed by the research group, the characteristic peaks of the stretching vibration of Fe-O were measured at 455 and 530 wavenumbers, and the temperature-programmed reduction characteristics of iron oxide were Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 → FeO. From the catalytic test results (see Figure 1), it can be seen that the iron-based film has excellent catalytic performance and broad application prospects. In addition, the quantitative calculation results indicate that CO and other molecules have the lowest energy barrier for the reaction with adsorbed oxygen during the surface reaction of iron oxide, and the surface LH and ER mechanism is more reasonable than the redox reaction mechanism (MvK) (see Figure 2).
